Our summer exhibition is nearly here!
ReRoot explores how identity, community and place
 inform one another.
 From Cedric Coxโ€™s densely fragmented
abstract urban landscapes to Tawni Shulerโ€™s surrealistic
and organic re-purposing of the open west,
ReRoot places 20 local and national artistsโ€™ work in conversation.
 The exhibition opens this Friday, June 1,from 6 โ€“ 8:30 p.m.
and will remain on display at CCAC through August 2.
ReRoot is inspired by the Old Clifton School buildingโ€™s journey
from a school to a community arts center as the communityโ€™s
needs have evolved. Holding more than 100 years of civic use,
school memories and Cincinnati history, CCAC is simultaneously
a reinvented place and an affirmation of its past.
In recognition of our own โ€œrerooting,โ€ we invited artists to explore theirs.
The response was phenomenal!
More than 200 pieces were submitted for consideration.
In addition to highlighting 20 individual artistsโ€™ perspectives,
ReRoot has garnered the participation of highly collaborative
and interactive community works. The opening will feature
 a wall-sized graffiti-style guestbook and a sneak-peek copy
of Cincy Story Mural (a citywide public art project telling the
cityโ€™s story through the photos and handwritten memories of its residents).
After making your mark, head upstairs and travel through concentric,
sublime rings of human voice in emerging composer
Justin West’s premier sound installation: Dancing.
The choral experience combines 24 unique singers from all walks of life
into a holistic composite as you approach the center of the installation.
Weโ€™re especially proud that ReRoot was conceived of
and curated by CCACโ€™s very own Program Coordinator, Missy Miller.
